Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLC Bhumireddy Rama Gopal Reddy on Monday (October 26, 2026) accused YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of orchestrating a disinformation campaign to derail the ongoing local body elections.

Addressing media persons at the party’s central office near Mangalagiri, Mr. Rama Gopal Reddy dismissed as misleading the YSRCP’s allegation that its candidates were being prevented from participating in the electoral process. He noted that the opposition party had filed tens of thousands of nominations for MPTC and ZPTC seats.

He questioned how the YSRCP could simultaneously claim widespread suppression while registering such a massive volume of candidates. At the same time, he said, the YSRCP failed to even field candidates in several areas in their traditional strongholds, including Pulivendula, Rajampet and Mydukur.

The TDP leader drew a sharp contrast between the current scenario and the local body polls held in 2021, when, he alleged, the YSRCP resorted to violence, intimidation and forced withdrawal of candidatures. This hostile situation forced the then State Election Commissioner to seek the deployment of Central security forces, he said.

Mr. Rama Gopal Reddy also alleged that the YSRCP filed multiple petitions in courts to obstruct the elections and that it was still trying to sabotage the elections with ulterior motives. People should realise the mala fide intentions behind the YSRCP’s actions and vote for candidates whom they consider good, he added.
