Millicent Nice Apeku has been elected Deputy Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashaiman Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.

She secured 1,362 votes in the constituency executive elections held on Saturday, October 24, to emerge ahead of three other contenders.

Kpotosu-Mensah Michael placed second with 631 votes, followed by Joseph Frimpong, who polled 723 votes, while David Quami Acheampong obtained 94 votes.

Five ballots were rejected, with the total votes cast recorded at 2,815.

Speaking to news reporters during press engagement to show appreciation to delegates and outlining her priorities on Monday, October 26, she said her victory places her in the constituency's leadership structure, where she is expected to support party administration, communication, coordination and the implementation of organisational decisions.

Ms Apeku has built her political experience through various roles within the NDC, spanning student politics, grassroots communication and constituency-level administration, she noted.

She previously served as Deputy Secretary of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) at Takoradi Technical University.

She also worked as Branch Communications Officer for the Nii Man Ward in Ashaiman, Deputy Coordinator of the Young Professional Forum in the Greater Accra Region, and a member of the NDC's Ashaiman Constituency Executive.

These roles have provided her with experience in party organisation, grassroots mobilisation and internal communication.

As Deputy Secretary, Ms Apeku said she is committed to working with constituency executives and party members to strengthen the party's internal structures and promote unity and discipline.

Her priorities include encouraging greater participation by young people and women in party activities and improving administrative coordination within the constituency.

Her journey from Alakple in the Volta Region to her professional role at the Tema Oil Refinery, alongside her involvement in party politics, reflects her pursuit of professional growth and leadership, she told the media.

According to her, the new role marks another step in her political career as she takes on a new responsibility in the NDC's Ashaiman Constituency leadership.
