A woman and her daughter were nabbed at Secunderabad Railway Station on Monday for their role in two theft cases and recovered 70 grams of gold ornaments and ₹10,000 in cash, with the total value of the seized property estimated at ₹10.60 lakh.

The Government Railway Police (GRP), in coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), identified the accused as Jamuna Byadh, 38, and her daughter Malathi Byadh, 20, natives of West Bengal. They were apprehended on Platform No. 1 around 8.30 am on Monday (October 26).

B. Saieashwar Goud, Inspector of Railway Police, said that the women had previously been involved in property offences in West Bengal. Jamuna came to Hyderabad in July with Malathi and her son Anand for her husband’s medical treatment at AIG Hospitals. The family rented a room in Gachibowli.

During their stay, the women resumed committing thefts to meet their expenses, the press note stated. During questioning, they admitted to their involvement in two theft cases registered within the Secunderabad Railway Police limits, and the stolen property was recovered.

The duo targeted crowded railway stations and trains, particularly female passengers boarding busy trains. According to the police, Jamuna would follow a targeted passenger and unzip her handbag or luggage to steal valuables, while Malathi kept watch on nearby passengers. Further investigation is underway.
