University of Ghana orders students with CGPA below 1.00 to withdraw

The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes. “Affected students are to check their CGPAs on the MIS Web, log in to the STS Portal (sts.ug.edu.gh/services) with their Student ID and PIN and select ‘Withdrawal Request’ to initiate the process,” the statement said.

The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes.

In a notice posted on Facebook on Thursday, October 22, the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate said the directive was in accordance with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which sets out the requirements for academic progression.

Under the regulation, students must attain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and meet the academic requirements of their respective schools or departments to qualify for progression to the next level.

The Directorate explained that the university’s regulations do not provide for academic probation. Students whose CGPAs remain below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been released are therefore required to withdraw.

Affected students have been advised to check their academic standing on the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web and submit their withdrawal requests through the Student and Staff Portal (STS).

“Affected students are to check their CGPAs on the MIS Web, log in to the STS Portal (sts.ug.edu.gh/services) with their Student ID and PIN and select ‘Withdrawal Request’ to initiate the process,” the statement said.

The Directorate noted, however, that for some programmes, the relevant school or department would initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students.

Students who require clarification about their academic standing or the withdrawal procedure have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.

The university added that its Careers and Counselling Directorate would remain available to offer support and guidance to students affected by the directive.
