The Kano State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed six commissioner nominees submitted by the state executive for appointment to the State Executive Council.

The Speaker, Jibril Ismail Falgore, presided over the screening during plenary.

The exercise followed a motion by the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Usman Abubakar, seeking the House’s approval to screen and confirm the nominees.

Speaking during the plenary, the Majority Leader said the nominees had met the requirements for appointment as commissioners and members of the State Executive Council.

He explained that the House was impressed by their level of expertise and experience, noting that several of them had previously served as commissioners, while others had held positions such as chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) and other public offices.

Hussaini added that the confirmation would be communicated to the executive for the allocation of portfolios to the newly appointed commissioners.

In his remarks after the screening, Air Commodore Salisu Yusha’u (retd.) noted that, as a security expert, he would work closely with relevant security agencies and local communities to strengthen security and promote peace at the grassroots.

A former chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Sani Malumfashi, emphasised the need to promote science and technology education, innovation and entrepreneurship to equip citizens with practical skills for self-reliance.

Another nominee and former Commissioner for Health and Environment, Aminu Tsanyawa, pledged to work towards eradicating drug abuse in Kano State, describing it as a major challenge requiring collective efforts to protect residents, particularly young people.

Other nominees who spoke after the screening included Mukhtari Ishaq, Ibrahim Namadi and Idris Garba.
