Congress, allies aim to create “anarchy” through November 1 Delhi protest: BJP

BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi accused the Congress and its allies of choosing November 1, a date he linked to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, for another Delhi protest to foment “anarchy”, and described Rahul Gandhi as a “failed product”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday (October 23, 2026) accused the Congress and its allies of choosing November 1 for organising another round of protests in Delhi to foment “anarchy”, drawing a parallel with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

At a press conference, BJP MP and spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi referred to the anti-Sikh violence in Delhi that had followed the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.

“They are once again going to hold a protest in Delhi on November 1. In other words, they want to remind people that, just as they pushed Delhi into chaos in 1984, they are again nurturing the thought of creating anarchy on the streets of Delhi on the same day,” he claimed.

Mr. Trivedi targeted the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, describing him as a “failed product”. Referring to his reported remarks in the past that his “fight” was also against the Indian state, the BJP leader accused him of undermining constitutional institutions based on false charges.

“Whether it is Europe, France, Italy, or Albania, troublemakers can be seen creating disturbances. However, nowhere do we see the Leader of the Opposition holding a sit-in outside the Prime Minister’s residence or entering Akashvani building. India alone is such a case where the Congress party is going to such lengths...,” he said.

He described the party as an “executor” for those planning to spread chaos in India, to gain power.

Mr. Trivedi claimed that despite several attempts, the Congress could not establish Mr. Gandhi as its leader and that he had not been able to deliver the expected electoral successes for his party. He pointed out that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress won only 99 seats.

Turning to the Congress, he questioned the party’s internal working and alleged that it had failed to promote younger leaders and was still stuck in “dynastic politics”. “Today, the situation is such that, for the first time in the Congress’s history, all three members of the Nehru-Gandhi family, the mother, son, and daughter, are in Parliament,” he said.

Mr. Trivedi also raised doubts about the coordination among INDIA bloc parties, alleging that there were disagreements between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party over seat-sharing for the coming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

“Today, the Bharatiya Janata Party stands before the country with its leader, Narendra Modi ji, who is a tested, genuine, seasoned and experienced leader. In this turbulent global scenario, he is like a boon for India,” he said.

France To Deploy 70,000 Police For Fresh Weekend Protests

The protests have come at a critical moment for France, six months ahead of elections to replace President Emmanuel Macron, with a new poll underlining far-right candidate Marine Le Pen as the frontrunner and indicating her position has been strengthened by the latest events. Adding to tensions, Le Pen is due at the weekend to host her National Rally (RN) party congress in Orleans, with thousands of supporters expected and local authorities fearing clashes as counter-protesters also head to the city south of Paris.
