Meeting of MLAs, Speaker to chalk out MC Road development plan, says Keralam Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer

Basheer says that at least 100 hectares of private land will have to be acquired for the road development, for which ₹5,000 crore will have to be budgeted

A meeting of 18 MLAs involved in the development of MC Road along with Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan will be convened on Thursday (October 29, 2026) to thrash out how the development project can be taken forward, Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer said in the House on Tuesday.

Replying to a calling attention motion by Left Democratic Front (LDF) MLA G.R. Anil, who shared anxieties over the MC Road development project that has not taken off, Mr. Basheer said the project to develop the Kesavadasapuram–Angamaly and Kollam–Shengotta stretches into four-lane roads had been initiated in 2022.

Though an administrative sanction was given in principle for MC Road development at ₹1,500 crore by the previous LDF government, this had not translated to actual allocation of funds. Hence, Mr. Basheer said, separate funds would have to be found for implementing the project.

Also, at least 100 hectares of private land will have to be acquired for road development, for which another ₹5,000 crore would have to be found, Mr. Basheer said.

The Minister said that at present, following survey and investigation, feasibility studies on the current alignment of the Mannanthala–Chengannur stretch was continuing.

More details can be shared at the meeting on Thursday, Mr. Basheer said.
