MLC seeks bus shelters for university students

Writes to RDPR Minister, seeks priority for Bedarapur and Venkataiahna Chathra

K. Shivakumar, MLC, has urged the State government to construct a bus shelter at Bedarapur for the convenience of students of Chamarajanagar University’s Suvarna Gangothri campus.

In a letter to Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Eshwar Khandre, the MLC stated that hundreds of students commute daily from Chamarajanagar, Nanjangud, Mysuru, Gundlupet, Kollegal, Yelandur and neighbouring villages to pursue higher education at the university.

The existing bus shelter on the route towards Nanjangud is in a dilapidated condition and lacks a roof, forcing students to wait for buses under the scorching sun, he pointed out.

He also highlighted the absence of a bus shelter at Venkataiahna Chathra village in the district.

Welcoming the State government’s initiative to construct 1,000 bus shelters across Karnataka, Mr. Shivakumar urged the Minister to give priority to Bedarapur and Venkataiahna Chathra while identifying locations for the facilities.
