Erode SC man burial dispute: Dominant caste residents seek withdrawal of case against nine

They alleged that videos related to the incident were being circulated with misleading claims, creating tension in the area

Residents of a dominant community from Thingalur have petitioned the district administration seeking the withdrawal of a case registered against nine persons in connection with a dispute over the use of a burial ground at Perumbali village in Madathupalayam village panchayat, near Perundurai.

In a petition submitted to officials on Thursday (October 22, 2026), the residents said people in Perumbali had been living in harmony until a dispute arose recently when the body of Chenni, a member of a Scheduled Caste community, was brought to the burial ground. Following objections to the burial, the body was placed on the road. Later, following the intervention of officials, the burial was carried out, the petition said.

The petitioners said Revenue Department officials had produced documents to establish that the burial ground was a common facility for all communities. They alleged that videos related to the incident were being circulated with misleading claims, creating tension in the area.

The residents urged the district administration to inquire into the incident and withdraw the case registered against the nine persons at Thingalur police station. They also sought action against those allegedly spreading false information and attempting to incite tension.
