The Greater Chennai Police (GCP) have issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Archana Veeramani, daughter of Gem Granites owner R. Veeramani, restraining her from travelling abroad, police sources said on Tuesday (October 27, 2026).
Archana, who was taken into custody by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at the Chennai International Airport after she boarded a flight to Singapore on Friday (October 23), was questioned and allowed to leave after she complained of illness.
“We believe she has knowledge of certain suspicious money transactions done to help her father evade legal action,” a police officer said, explaining the reason for the issuance of the LOC.
Veeramani, his associate Shanthi, and others face eight cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A couple of days ago, the police issued LOCs against five persons, including Archana, to prevent them from escaping to a foreign country. The SIT said the individuals could be in possession of evidence relating to the POCSO Act cases.
Efforts were still being made to trace Prakash Kanniah, who has absconded and is believed to be staying in the United Kingdom, the sources said.
Meanwhile, the police have frozen the bank accounts of Veeramani’s business establishments. They had already frozen the bank accounts of Prakash Kanniah and a couple of others. “We have already come across a few suspicious transactions. Freezing the bank accounts is to prevent the use of money to influence or intimidate the witnesses or tamper with the evidence,” said an officer who did not want to be quoted.
The SIT was in the process of filing a charge sheet in the designated court for POCSO Act cases. “We will seek maximum punishment for the accused persons,” the officer said.
In almost all the cases booked under the POCSO Act involving victims who were then minors, the accused offered gifts, chocolates, and mobile phones to sexually exploit them. “In one case, a child was interested in sports, and the accused offered to buy a sports gear for her and sexually abused her,” he said.
The SIT will soon question Veeramani, his associate Shanti, and her husband Mahendra Simhan by confronting them with fresh evidence seized in the case which, the police say, may lead to further breakthrough in the investigation, the sources said.
