SIR adds 48,513 new voters in Kalaburagi, leaves 4.77 lakh out of electoral roll

The final electoral roll has 18.94 lakh voters against the 23.71 lakh before revision

The number of polling stations in Kalaburagi district has increased from 2,400 before the SIR to 2,461, following the addition of 61 stations.

The number of voters in Kalaburagi district has declined by 4,77,398 compared with the pre-Special Intensive Revision (SIR) roll, with the final electoral roll published on Tuesday listing 18,94,144 voters against 23,71,542 before the revision.

The final roll, covering nine Assembly constituencies, comprises 9,61,210 men, 9,32,722 women and 212 voters belonging to the third gender.

The decline from the pre-SIR electorate amounts to approximately 20.1%.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Rayappa Hunasagi, who announced the publication of the final roll at a press conference at Gulbarga University on Tuesday, said that the draft roll published on August 24 contained 18,49,585 electors.

Following scrutiny of claims and objections, the final roll recorded a net addition of 44,559 electors compared with the draft.

During the revision, 48,513 names were added and 3,954 deleted between the draft and final rolls, while 42,108 entries were corrected, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Avinash Sindhe said.

Mr. Hunasagi said that 1,05,511 notices were issued to verify anomalies and cases involving electors who could not be mapped during the SIR process.

Following verification, 1,905 electors were removed from the final roll on several grounds, including inadequate documentation, death and shifting of residence or duplicate registration.

He said that eligible electors have been given an opportunity to establish their eligibility.

Among the nine Assembly constituencies, Kalaburagi Uttar recorded the largest decline compared with the pre-SIR electorate, falling from 3,35,254 to 2,39,542. Kalaburagi Dakshin followed with its electorate declining from 2,97,785 to 2,02,117.

The final roll includes 28,966 young voters aged 18 to 19, 25,501 persons with disabilities, 14,897 electors aged above 85 and 896 service voters.

The district’s elector-population ratio stands at 65.44%, while the gender ratio is 971 women for every 1,000 men.

The number of polling stations has increased from 2,400 before the SIR to 2,461, following the addition of 61 stations. New polling stations were created in areas where the electorate exceeded 1,200, officials said.

Mr. Sindhe said that officials examined electors under four categories: those who were absent, those who had shifted residence, those who died or were already registered elsewhere.

Although complaints were received from some areas about names being removed, he said the draft roll was scrutinised and action taken in accordance with the prescribed rules.

A total of 324 applications have been disposed of in rural areas.
