Former employees of defunct state-owned and divested hospitality facilities have petitioned the Presidency over unpaid severance packages dating back to 2008, following years of delays and unsuccessful appeals for their entitlements.

Visibly distressed, with many appearing frail in their old age, the former workers carried placards urging the government to pay their outstanding severance packages.

Presenting the petition on Tuesday, October 27, on behalf of the group, consultant Nani Welbeck appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and ensure the workers receive their long-awaited payments.

He said repeated attempts to secure the payments had yielded no results, leaving the former employees waiting for nearly two decades for their entitlements.

Receiving the petition, Presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah thanked the group for bringing the matter to the President’s attention.

She urged the former workers to remain patient, assuring them that efforts were underway to address the situation and find a lasting solution to their concerns.
