Karnataka’s first Tribal University will be established near Chitradurga, according to Minister for Scheduled Tribes Welfare T. Raghumurthy, who is also Minister in-charge of Chitradurga district.

The Minister stated that the tribal university would be established in Challakere taluk in Chitradurga district. It would be set up on 120 acres. A proposal in this regard had already been submitted, and further action would be taken after detailed discussions with the Chief Minister, he said.

“The university will provide opportunities to study tribal art, language, literature, culture, and traditional knowledge,” he said. Research on the lifestyle, social development, economic development, and other systems of tribal communities could be encouraged at the proposed university. Skill-based education and professional courses could enhance the educational capacity required for employment, he observed.
