Congress-induced drought, not forced by nature: KTR

He says party is planning a public meeting at Nirmal on November 11

Working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao has blamed the Congress Government for the drought in the State as the A. Reventh Reddy Government has failed to take appropriate measures to avoid the severity of drought in time including not switching on the motors of Kannepally pump house of the Kaleshwaram Project.

Speaking at a party meeting here on Tuesday, he termed the drought conditions as “Congress-induced and not nature or El Nino-induced”. It was not a drought that had been brought by nature but the one forced on the people by the Revanth Reddy Government, he alleged.

The government was unmoved by the plight of people and farmers with shortage for water for drinking and irrigation needs and erratic power supply to farming and other sectors. There was ample water in rivers but the Congress Government had allowed it to flow down to Andhra Pradesh by not running the motors of Kaleshwaram and Palamuru-Rangareddy projects.

He reiterated that running motors of Kannepally pump house was very much possible without even closing the gates of Medigadda Barrage as there was enough flow in the river, even in the free-flow condition, to run the motors and lift water and fill all reservoirs and irrigation tanks linked to the project canal systems.

Mr. Rama Rao said people of Telangana were badly betrayed by the Congress as it had failed to keep most of the promises made in the run up to Assembly elections. The people believed in the false promises and repenting now and were awaiting the elections to bring back KCR as the Chief Minister again, he said and added that the value of light would be known much only in the darkness.

The BRS leader alleged that Telangana had become a platform for exploitation for the Congress party led by Mr. Revanth Reddy as his entire focus was keeping the party’s national leadership in Delhi in good humour by supporting the party’s financial needs from the State.

As part of strengthening BRS in Nirmal constituency and district, the party is planning a public meeting there on November 11 as the party still has many leaders backing it even when some who enjoyed power deserted it after 2023 election loss, Mr. Rama Rao told party leaders.
