National Confederation of Pensioners’ Associations (NCPA), an organisation representing retired employees of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and exempted Provident Fund Establishments, has written to President Droupadi Murmu urging her intervention to address the delay in providing higher pension based on higher wages.
The pensioners said in the letter that a higher pension is no longer a disputed issue, as the Supreme Court has passed an order on the matter and the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is creating unnecessary delays and bureaucratic hurdles to deny pension.
The NCPA said that the President must exercise her “august moral authority” and direct the Union Ministry of Labour & Employment and the EPFO to immediately withdraw an EPFO circular dated January 18, 2025. They alleged that the circular was designed to manoeuvre accountability and nullify laws passed by Parliament through executive internal orders.
They have also demanded that an immediate litigation audit must be conducted to withdraw all “frivolous appeals” against settled High Court judgments, ensuring that retirees of exempted establishments are not subjected to structural or procedural discrimination. “Direct the acceptance of Joint Options for pension on higher wages without punitive interest penalties accrued solely due to EPFO’s administrative delays, and the establishment of a time-bound mechanism to grant immediate relief to ageing pensioners,” the organisation said in the letter.
