T.N. BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran condemns arrest of farmers seeking waiver of loans

BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran on Friday (October 23, 2026) condemned the arrest of farmers in Tiruchi district who staged a protest seeking a waiver of farm loans, in line with the assurance made in the TVK electoral manifesto. He questioned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay whether the problems could be resolved merely by detaining the protesting farmers.

In a social media post, Mr. Nagenthran referred to a report published in Hindu Tamil Thisai about the detention of over 200 farmers at Samayapuram in Tiruchi district. The farmers had staged a protest seeking a waiver of farm loans, in line with the assurance made in the TVK electoral manifesto. He condemned the detentions, saying: “You will not fulfil the assurance by waiving the farm loans of farmers owning more than five acres of land, but you will arrest them when they ask about it?”
