BJP government spending 'unprecedented resources' to malign Rahul, says Priyanka

This is just the beginning, says Wayanad MP after U.P. court acquits Rahul in defamation case

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. File

Lok Sabha member from Wayanad and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday (October 27, 2026) said it took “immense courage, tenacity and the perseverance of a true warrior” to stand against an “onslaught of lies”, a day after her brother and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi was acquitted in a defamation case by a court in Uttar Pradesh.

Responding to Mr. Gandhi’s post on X, in which he wrote “Satyam Shivam Sundaram”, Ms. Vadra accused the government of using “unprecedented resources” to malign her brother.

“This government has spent unprecedented resources on a filthy campaign to malign my brother, to defame him and slap bogus cases on him simply for fearlessly telling the truth. It takes immense courage, tenacity and the perseverance of a true warrior to stand against an onslaught of lies, the way he has,” she said.

“One by one the chips will fall. The truth will emerge clear and strong. This is just the beginning,” Ms Vadra added.

Mr. Gandhi was acquitted by the MP-MLA court in Sultanpur on Monday (October 27, 2026) in a defamation case arising from his remarks against then BJP president Amit Shah in 2018.

A day after the court verdict, he invoked a Sanskrit phrase “Satyam Shivam Sundaram”, which signifies truth, auspiciousness and beauty.
