2027: INEC to publish updated list of candidates after review

The Independent National Electoral Commission says it will publish an updated list of candidates for the 2027 general elections after its review process.

The Independent National Electoral Commission will publish an updated list of candidates for the 2027 general elections following the conclusion of its review process.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, disclosed this on Tuesday in Gombe while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of an interactive session with commission staff from the North-East zone.

Amupitan said the review was conducted to address complaints received by the commission, including spelling errors in candidates’ names and cases of double nominations.

He explained that INEC had allowed the maximum 14-day period for reviewing the list before making the updated version public.

“As you know, usually, in any list published, there could be errors here and there, and there have been complaints of misspelling of names. We have also received complaints of double nominations.

“We decided to allow the maximum period of 14 days. Any moment from now, we will make the review public, and the list will be released,” he said.

Amupitan’s disclosure comes amid preparations for the 2027 general elections, as the commission continues its review of candidates’ information ahead of the polls.
