The Federal Government has approved a ₦70,000 transport intervention for workers across all levels for six months, beginning in November 2026, following a conciliation meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). The agreement was reached at a meeting convened by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in Abuja on Tuesday, October 27, to address issues raised by organised labour.
Under the agreement, the government also approved the payment of peculiar allowance arrears, effective from May 1, 2026, with payments scheduled to begin in November in three equal monthly instalments. The parties, however, failed to agree on the effective date for implementing the national minimum wage, although they agreed that the Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee would be constituted and begin meeting immediately.
The resolutions were contained in a press statement issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment after the meeting, which was chaired by the Minister, Dr Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, with NLC President Joe Ajaero leading the labour delegation. On the transport intervention, the statement said the Federal Government “will pay a transport intervention of Seventy Thousand Naira (₦70,000) across all levels for a period of six (6) months, commencing from November 2026.” On peculiar allowances, the government approved payments with effect from May 1, 2026, with the arrears to be paid in three equal monthly instalments beginning in November.A conciliation meeting between the FG and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

The verification is expected to be completed within two weeks, after which the commission will issue an implementation template. The parties also discussed the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) adjustment. According to the statement, NSIWC promised to complete the update of the cost implications within three weeks to enable the Presidential Committee on Salaries to decide on the adjustment.
On tax relief for workers, the statement said the issue would be taken to the National Executive Council because taxation is a statutory matter. The meeting followed an earlier conciliation session held on October 22 and came after discussions on issues raised by the NLC’s Central Working Committee and National Executive Council. The government and labour representatives agreed to reconvene after one month to assess the level of implementation of the resolutions.
The meeting also called on state and local governments to participate in the intervention process and urged unions to push for implementation at their respective levels.
