One person has died, and 14 others have sustained serious injuries in a collision involving a Toyota Hiace and a Peugeot saloon car on the Akuse–Akosombo Highway in the Eastern Region.

The crash occurred at Trey Court on Monday, October 26, prompting a response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) after its Kpong Fire Station received a distress call at 2:50 p.m.

A six-member rescue team was dispatched two minutes later and arrived at the scene at 3 p.m., where it found the two vehicles had collided side-on.

The GNFS said the collision left 14 people seriously injured, while a male victim died.

The deceased was conveyed to St. Martin de Porres Hospital for preservation, while the injured were taken to the same facility for medical treatment.

The vehicles involved were a Toyota Hiace with registration number GE 6558-25 and a Peugeot saloon car with registration number GT 5463-11.

The cause of the collision had not been established as of Tuesday, October 27, according to a statement issued by the GNFS Public Relations Officer for the Eastern Region.

The incident adds to concerns about road safety, particularly the risk of serious injuries and fatalities when vehicles collide on highways. Investigations are expected to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.

The Afrikania Mission is therefore calling on the Ministry of Transport, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other relevant authorities to ensure that public transport spaces remain peaceful and respectful of Ghana’s religious diversity.
