By Musa Ubandawaki, Sokoto BUA Cement has donated ₦12 million to the families of eight people killed in a road accident along the Kajiji–Tambuwal road in Sokoto State. The company provided ₦1.5 million to each of the bereaved families as financial assistance following the crash, which reportedly involved a commercial minibus conveying 13 passengers and a BUA Cement truck.

Eight people, including a child, reportedly died in the accident. The company’s management visited the affected families in Tambuwal to deliver the assistance, accompanied by the District Head of Tambuwal, Alhaji Ahmad Dahiru, and the Chairman of Tambuwal Local Government Area, Hon. Abba Shehu Tambuwal. The donation was commended by the traditional ruler and the council chairman, who described the intervention as a significant demonstration of compassion and support for the bereaved families.

The two leaders expressed appreciation to BUA Cement for providing financial assistance despite reports that the company’s truck was not responsible for the accident. They said the gesture demonstrated the importance of corporate social responsibility and urged other organisations to support communities affected by tragedies. The leaders also noted that although the financial assistance could not replace the lives lost, it could help ease some of the immediate financial difficulties confronting the families.

They prayed for Allah to reward the company for its generosity, grant eternal rest to the deceased and give their families the strength and patience to bear their losses. The donation comes as the affected households grapple with the loss of their loved ones following the fatal crash. The intervention also highlighted the role of collaboration between businesses, traditional institutions and local government authorities in supporting families affected by emergencies and other tragedies.

Isah said the Ministry of Agriculture had discussed support for the onion subsector with the Bank of Agriculture and the Nigerian Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), regarding seed supply and farm inputs.
