BIS seizes Ninja brand kitchen appliances worth ₹8 crore

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) seized 13,021 Ninja brand kitchen appliances worth approximately ₹8 crore for allegedly violating mandatory quality certification requirements during a search operation at a company’s premises in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

The BIS Bengaluru Branch Office conducted the operation at Cavitak Global Commerce Pvt. Ltd., which operates under the brand name GRIPIT, at Chagalahatti, near CMR College Road in Jala Hobli, Yelahanka.

The seized goods comprised 8,713 air fryers and 4,308 portable blenders that did not bear the mandatory BIS Standard Mark (ISI mark).

Four air fryers and one portable blender were also taken to the BIS office as evidence, according to the seizure memo.

The action was taken under Section 28 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, for alleged violations of mandatory certification requirements. The appliances were found to be non-compliant with the Electrical Appliances for Kitchen (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

The BIS said that legal proceedings would be initiated against the company based on the findings. The operation forms part of the bureau’s ongoing efforts to prevent the sale of products that fail to meet prescribed quality and safety standards, thereby protecting consumers from non-compliant goods.

The BIS advised consumers to check for the ISI mark on products covered under mandatory certification and verify licence details through the BIS Care app.

Consumers can also report suspected violations through the bureau’s official website at www.bis.gov.in.
