Man held with cannabis-infused candies in Kozhikode

The cannabis-infused candies were brought from Uttar Pradesh for sale to students near schools and colleges and to small-scale vendors, say Excise officials
A special squad of the Excise department has arrested a native of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly smuggling a large quantity of cannabis-infused candies into Kozhikode for sale to students. The accused has been identified as Pintu, 31, a native of Hapur in Uttar Pradesh.
Acting on a tip-off, Excise officials intercepted the accused and seized 872 grams of cannabis-infused candies. The candies were reportedly concealed under the seat of a scooter to avoid detection. Preliminary investigations indicated that the accused planned to distribute them in various parts of Kozhikode city.
According to Excise department officials, the contraband was brought from Uttar Pradesh to target students near schools and colleges, as well as small-scale vendors. It was packaged for easy distribution among children and young adults, they said.
Following the seizure, the department has expanded its investigation to identify absconding accomplices and other agents linked to the network. Pintu is suspected to be a key operative in a drug trafficking ring supplying narcotics from Uttar Pradesh to Kerala. Excise officials have also urged school authorities to strengthen inspections and monitoring to curb drug trafficking.
