Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana has directed Municipal Commissioners in cyclone-affected areas to take immediate precautionary measures to minimise disruption to public life.

During a teleconference with Municipal Commissioners on Wednesday, he stressed the need for round-the-clock monitoring and prompt action to address problems arising from heavy rain and strong winds.

He instructed officials to keep personnel and machinery ready to clear fallen trees from roads immediately to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. He also asked them to take precautions around vulnerable hoardings that could pose a threat during strong winds.

Mr. Narayana directed engineering staff to remain vigilant and take immediate steps to prevent waterlogging on roads and in drainage systems. He stressed the need to ensure the free flow of rainwater and respond promptly to complaints from affected areas.

He also instructed municipal authorities to address sanitation issues arising from the rainfall and ensure that drinking water supplies remained uncontaminated.

The Minister called on municipal administrations to remain alert and respond swiftly to emerging situations to minimise the impact of Cyclone Arnab on urban residents and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of essential civic services.
