Police unveil mine-proof, Vajra vehicles, hold flag march to boost election security in Anantapur
Police conduct a flag march with mine-proof and Vajra riot control vehicles ahead of local body elections, in Anantapur on Wednesday.
With elections approaching and several sensitive areas that have a history of poll-related violence, the district police force is taking various proactive measures to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents.
As part of these efforts, Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Jagadeesh conducted a thorough inspection of the mine-proof vehicle that is at the disposal of the district police, on the premises of the District Police Office on Wednesday. The SP said the vehicle would be highly effective in dispersing violent mobs or hostile groups during the election period, while also ensuring the safety of police personnel as they address such challenges.
The SP personally examined the vehicle’s functionality, technical specifications, and operational procedures for emergency situations, providing specific instructions to the staff. Mr. Jagadeesh emphasised that the police were preparing with advanced, technology-driven vehicles and equipment to ensure that the elections were held in a free and peaceful environment. He noted that strict surveillance had been established to prevent any disruption to law and order.
Later in the day, the police department conducted a flag march in the city aimed at ensuring a peaceful atmosphere and to instil courage and a sense of assurance among the public. The flag march passed through the city streets with advanced security equipment, including the mine-proof vehicle, ‘Vajra’ riot-control vehicles, and water cannons.
The flag march commenced at Saptagiri Circle and proceeded through the Tower Clock, Arts College, Railway Station, Chandra Hospital, RTC Bus Stand, Nallagantam Circle, Tadipatri Bus Stand, Gandhi Circle, Tilak Road, Old Town, and Suryanagar Cross. It then returned to Saptagiri Circle and concluded at the DPO (District Police Office).
