The Dambai Circuit Court has remanded four persons into police custody in connection with violent disturbances at Dwabrem in Worawora in the Oti Region.
The accused persons, identified as Kwame Aboagye Ahenkroa, 55; Prince Asante, 27; Daniel Wiafe, 20; and Kwabena Nsimbo, 22, were remanded on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, and are expected to reappear before the court on November 17, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Oti Regional Police Command on Wednesday, October 28, the disturbances occurred on Saturday, October 24, amid tensions surrounding the commencement of traditional rites for the Akwantutenten Festival.
The unrest reportedly followed claims that a High Court injunction had been secured to restrain the celebration, resulting in the burning of vehicle tyres and other acts of violence.
Police personnel deployed to the scene extinguished the fire and restored order.
Following the incident, the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) met representatives of the disputing families on Monday, October 26, and directed them to seek redress through the appropriate courts and Houses of Chiefs.
The Council emphasised that the underlying chieftaincy dispute must be resolved through lawful means and directed that all persons arrested in connection with the disturbances be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, the Oti Regional Police Command has appealed to all parties to remain calm, exercise restraint and respect legal processes to maintain peace and security in Worawora.
