By Adegboyega Adeleye Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has promised tax relief for young businesses and pledged to make government a major customer of Nigerian technology companies if elected president in 2027. Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the pledge in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, addressing founders, engineers and other technology professionals attending the Moonshot conference organised by TechCabal at the National Theatre in Lagos.
He said young Nigerian companies have shown they can compete despite unfavourable government policies, and he promised to create a more supportive environment for innovation and business growth. To every founder, engineer, and dreamer gathered at the National Theatre in Lagos today for Moonshot by @TechCabal: you have built world-class companies in spite of policy, and I want to be the President who builds policy that works for you.

Outlining his proposed support for startups, Atiku said young companies would receive tax relief during their early years, while government would use digital public services, budgeting and procurement to create opportunities for technology businesses. “I will give young companies tax relief in their early years. I will also make the government your customer by digitising public services, budgeting, and procurement, and I will require every new development to be fibre-ready,” he said.
The former vice-president argued that Nigerian entrepreneurs had already demonstrated their capacity to build successful companies, saying government policies should help them achieve more. “You have proven what Nigerian talent can do alone. Imagine what it can do with a government on its side,” he added. The flagship tech conference Moonshot by TechCabal 2026 kicks off today, October 28, and runs through tomorrow, October 29, 2026, at the National Theatre in Lagos, Nigeria
