NPP will prioritise education over material incentives in Zongo communities – Nasara Coordinator

Nasara Coordinator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Ali Suraj, says the party will prioritise education and development in Zongo communities rather than encourage violence for political gains.

He insists the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has left the Zongo communities with a history of political neglect and uses material incentives to influence residents for political gains.

Alhaji Suraj says the NPP will focus on opportunities for young people, prioritise education and development in Zongo communities to change popular notions associated with Zongo.

Alhaji Ali Suraj made the remarks during a thanksgiving service following his election as the NPP’s Nasara Coordinator.

According to him, the NPP has shifted its approach towards education, citing the Zongo Development Fund and scholarship opportunities as interventions he believes have helped young people pursue higher education.

Addressing supporters, Mr Suraj said political parties must be judged by their contributions to the long-term development of Zongo communities rather than short-term inducements during election campaigns.

“Compare their rice and sugar and scholarships, and you would see the difference between the parties. There is a party that thinks about the Zongo and the next generation. The NPP is a party for the Zongo community. There is no going back. You cannot use lies to do politics in the Zongo community. The Zongo you know today is not the Zongo of yesterday,” he said.

Reflecting on his election, Mr Suraj said the thanksgiving service was organised to express gratitude to Allah for a peaceful and successful internal election.

He interpreted the turnout at the service as a sign of support for his leadership and an opportunity to unite party members across Zongo communities.

Mr Suraj further expressed confidence that his election would strengthen the NPP’s presence in the communities, arguing that the party’s Nasara representatives in constituencies would help mobilise members towards the next general elections.

“Two weeks ago, we ran for an election and won. It was the most peaceful and successful executive election that will lead the NPP to the 2028 victory. We asked for His favour before the election, and we are here to thank Allah for my victory,” he said.
