Woman found dead in Tanoso room after days without contact

The Assembly Member for the Tanoso Electoral Area, Aaron Namdie, said residents alerted him to the incident, prompting him to inform the police. He said personnel from the Ashanti Regional Police Crime Scene Management team and officers from the Tanoso Police visited the scene and examined the body before it was conveyed to the morgue at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
A 40-year-old bread seller has been found dead in her room at Tanoso in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region, after reportedly going several days without being seen by neighbours.
The woman, identified only as Anita, was discovered on Wednesday morning after residents became concerned about her absence and noticed a strong foul smell coming from her room.
An eyewitness, Tiwaa Lydia, who lives in the same house, said Anita was last seen on Sunday and lived alone while selling bread in the Tanoso area.
She said residents became concerned when someone came looking for Anita and decided to check on her.
“Sunday was the last time I saw her. Someone came to look for her, which drew our attention to knock on her door to see whether she was inside or not. When we got to her door, we started perceiving a strong foul smell from the room. We looked through the window and saw that she was lying on the floor,” she recounted.
“We called on some boys around to help us open the door and, when we opened it, she was lying lifeless.”
The discovery shocked residents of the compound and surrounding neighbourhood, with some expressing concern about how the woman could have died without being noticed for several days.
The body has been preserved pending an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
Mr Namdie added that the Kwadaso Municipal Environmental Health Department had fumigated the room and its surroundings as a precaution against possible health risks.
He expressed shock over the incident, saying similar cases had occurred in the electoral area in the past.
He urged residents to look out for one another and report unusual absences, particularly when neighbours who live alone cannot be reached for an extended period.
Police have begun preliminary investigations into the incident. The deceased’s family is expected to be contacted for further arrangements.
