Farmer injured by gun trap allegedly set for wild boars in Kasaragod

The gun trap is suspected to have been planted by an unidentified poaching gang that trespassed on farmer’s property to hunt wild boars

Illegal gun traps allegedly set up by poaching gangs to hunt wild boars are posing a serious threat to residents. A 56-year-old farmer, Panthaloor Reji of Asharithattu at Paramba, sustained serious injuries after he was accidentally shot by a gun trap concealed in a thicket on his property on Tuesday (October 27, 2026) evening.

The incident occurred around 6.30 p.m. when Reji was returning home. He suffered serious injuries to his left leg and was shifted to a hospital.

The gun trap is suspected to have been planted by an unidentified poaching gang that trespassed on his property to hunt wild boars. Mr. Reji was reportedly unaware that a trap had been set on his land.

The Chittarikkal police rushed to the spot after being informed of the incident and seized the gun used in the trap. They are examining whether the firearm has a valid licence and gathering information to identify those responsible for setting up the trap.
