Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has held discussions with the leadership of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) on strategies to position Ghana as a leading pharmaceutical production hub in West Africa and across the continent.

The meeting, held at the PSG House in Accra, focused on boosting local production of medicines, improving regulatory efficiency and strengthening public-private partnerships to expand the country’s pharmaceutical sector.

Dr Bawumia said the engagement formed part of his ongoing stakeholder consultations aimed at shaping policies to drive Ghana’s sustainable development.

In a post on Friday, October 23, he said discussions also covered workforce entry and conditions of service for pharmacists, as part of efforts to address issues affecting the profession and support the growth of the pharmaceutical industry.

He expressed appreciation to the current leadership, past presidents and executives of the society for their contributions to the discussions and their commitment to healthcare development.

Dr Bawumia said strengthening domestic pharmaceutical production would contribute to building a resilient and self-reliant economy, while creating jobs and safeguarding the health of Ghanaians.

The engagement comes amid broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s domestic productive capacity and improve the country’s position in the regional pharmaceutical market.
