TPCC working president Jagga Reddy said the Gangakatwa canal in Suraram village, Sadasivapet mandal of Sangareddy district would be restored with the government sanctioning ₹37 crore for its renovation.

The Gangakatwa canal dates back to the time of the seventh Nizam and was designed to irrigate around 3,300 acres of agricultural land across 11 villages. The proposed renovation is aimed at restoring the ageing irrigation infrastructure and improving its capacity to serve farmers in the region.

The project is expected to benefit agricultural activity in the 11 villages by improving irrigation access. The sanction is significant for the local farming community, as the canal has long required repairs and renovation.

Mr. Jagga Reddy, who had been pursuing the renovation of the old irrigation system for a long time, apparently submitted 25 representations to various governments pressing for the release of funds. His efforts culminated in Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy sanctioning ₹37 crore for the project.

While inspecting the canal after the funds’ release, Mr. Jagga Reddy jumped into the canal and swam, turning the inspection into a celebration of the proposed restoration work.
