NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 29 – A Somali national convicted of fraudulently acquiring Kenyan identity and passport documents is to be repatriated to Somalia after settling fines totalling Sh370,000.

Mohamud Mohammed Roble pleaded guilty to three counts before the JKIA Law Courts relating to unlawful presence in Kenya, making a false declaration to obtain a Kenyan passport and presenting an identity card containing false entries with intent to deceive.

The court fined him Sh150,000 for unlawful presence in the country, Sh150,000 for the false declaration and Sh70,000 for presenting the identity card.

The sentences provide for imprisonment in default of payment.

Roble was arrested after detectives from the Immigration and Citizen Services Investigations Unit took over the case from immigration officials at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Investigations established that he had obtained Kenyan registration documents before using false declarations to secure a Kenyan passport.

The court ordered that the passport be surrendered to the Director General of Immigration Services for Destruction and that Roble be repatriated to Somalia upon payment of the fines.
