College student killed after motorcycle hits pedestrian, crashes into TDB president’s car in Pathanamthitta

The motorcycle first hit the elderly man as he was crossing the road. The rider then lost control of the vehicle and fell beneath the TDB president’s car.

A 20-year-old college student was killed when the motorcycle he was riding hit an elderly pedestrian before crashing into a car carrying Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president K Jayakumar at Koodal in Pathanamthitta district on Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Krishnanandhu S. Pillai, a student of the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD) College at Kallanjoor.

Mr. Jayakumar was on his way to Pathanamthitta in connection with preparations for the upcoming annual Sabarimala pilgrimage season when the accident occurred around 8.55 a.m., the police said. The motorcycle first hit the elderly man as he was crossing the road. The rider then lost control of the vehicle and fell beneath the TDB president’s car. While the student died in the accident, the pedestrian sustained injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The police examined CCTV footage and recorded statements from eyewitnesses as part of the investigation. The car was taken into custody and shifted to the Koodal police station, officials said.

The driver was also taken into custody and subjected to a medical examination. A scientific team examined the accident site to assist the investigation. Koodal police registered a case in connection with the death and launched an investigation.

The body will be handed over to the relatives after the post-mortem eamination, police said.
