Landless workers in Hingoli paste ‘house sale’ notices on doors amid loan repayment pressure

Some 80-100 women have borrowed money through self-help groups from a micro-finance firm based in neighbouring Washim district, and were allegedly facing harassment despite repaying at least 70% of the amount, a Krantikari Shetkari Sanghatana functionary said

Some landless farm workers and women’s self-help group members in Maharashtra's Hingoli district on Thursday (October 29, 2026) pasted 'house sale' notices on their doors citing loan repayment pressure amid crop losses and lack of regular employment.

The notices have come up in Waghjali village, a Krantikari Shetkari Sanghatana functionary said.

He claimed some 80-100 women have borrowed money through self-help groups from a micro-finance firm based in neighbouring Washim district, and were allegedly facing harassment despite repaying at least 70% of the amount.

Residents said many of them were struggling to pay loan instalments due to poor rainfall, crop loss and lack of regular farm work.

They claimed loan recovery agents were troubling them with regular house visits.

It had left them with no option but to paste 'sale' notices on the doors of their houses.

"We have sent a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Affected women will protest at the district collector's office if the administration fails to intervene and give us relief," villager Dhammaratna More said.
