Woman booked for murder of teenage daughter and trying to pass it off as suicide

A 34-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly killing her 14-year-old daughter and attempting to portray the death as suicide in Kothur, in Future City Police Commissionerate.

The accused, Muyyadi Vijaya Laxmi, a resident of Hanuman Temple Colony in Kothur, was arrested on October 29 in connection with her daughter’s death on October 27. The death was initially reported as suicide by hanging. However, the post-mortem examination found “throttling associated with hanging”, following which police altered the case to murder under Section 103 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police said the two had frequent disagreements over the girl’s excessive mobile phone use and her failure to follow her mother’s instructions. During another argument on October 27, Vijaya Laxmi throttled her daughter and subsequently tied a cloth around her neck to make the death appear - suicide.

Following the investigation, Kothur police arrested the woman, seized relevant evidence and initiated procedures for judicial remand.
