MTN Ghana extends National Business Pitch to all 16 regions, offers GH¢300,000 grand prize

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Ghana will have the opportunity to compete for a GH¢300,000 national grand prize under MTN Ghana’s National Business Pitch, which is being extended to all 16 regions. Senior Manager for SME Sales, Business Broadband and Partnerships at MTN Ghana, Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed, says the expansion will give more businesses across the country the opportunity to benefit from the initiative.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Ghana will have the opportunity to compete for a GH¢300,000 national grand prize under MTN Ghana's National Business Pitch, which is being extended to all 16 regions.

The competition will select 48 businesses, with three SMEs from each region qualifying for the regional contest. Regional winners will receive GH¢30,000 each, while the overall national winner will take home GH¢300,000.

Senior Manager for SME Sales, Business Broadband and Partnerships at MTN Ghana, Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed, says the expansion will give more businesses across the country the opportunity to benefit from the initiative.

“This time round, we are not going to limit it within a region. We are going to do it in all the 16 regions of Ghana. We have 48 qualified people who will be selected from all the 16 regions,” he said.

Mr Mohammed says MTN recognises the important role SMEs play in job creation and economic growth, hence the decision to strengthen its support for the sector.

“At MTN, we value the SMEs so much. We believe that these SMEs, when we are able to give them all the necessary support, they grow to become very big companies and create the necessary job opportunities. They also contribute to the GDP of Ghana,” he said.

He noted that MTN itself started as a small business and has grown through support and visionary leadership, adding that the company wants to extend similar opportunities to emerging businesses.

Mr Mohammed encouraged businesses with valid registration to apply through the designated link on MTN Ghana's website.

He explained that applications would be assessed by independent judges who are not affiliated with MTN, to ensure a fair and transparent selection process.

“MTN is not taking part. We have judges who are independent of us. We are going to go through the process with our SMEs and then be able to select the best out of them,” he added.

The National Business Pitch forms part of MTN Ghana's efforts to support entrepreneurship, strengthen small businesses and contribute to private-sector development.
