Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, on Friday, sought a clarification from the Central government about the locations of Chinese troops intruding into Arunachal Pradesh as well as incidents in which Indian security forces were stopped from patrolling, and some citizens were restricted.

Mr. Owaisi’s statement came after Shatrujeet Kapur, Director, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, stated that “face-off happened at several locations in Arunachal” and that these were continuing.

Criticising the Narendra Modi-led government of keeping the public “in the dark”, he underscored that the developments along the border have been “extremely concerning”. “The country also needs to know for how many months has this gone on, and why has the government acting friendly with China during this period. Is the @narendramodi government even capable of defending and securing Indian territory?” he posted.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president reiterated that he had raised the issue of border intrusions on several occasions in the past and alleged that the Centre was not being transparent about the incidents.

“No discussion takes place in Parliament, no questions are allowed, PM Modi doesn’t hold a press conference and even when he has spoken, as in June 2020, he has claimed that there were no Chinese on the Indian territory. That was obviously not true or factual,” he stated.

He called for an independent and comprehensive assessment of the border situation as well as convening a special session of Parliament to discuss the position of the government’s China policy.

“The least that this country deserves is the truth, honesty and political accountability, when it comes to such core issues that affect the territorial integrity of India,” he said.
