HYDRAA clears encroachments on 12 acres of RK Puram lake
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Thursday removed encroachments spread across 12 acres of RK Puram lake, also known as Mukkidikunta, in Malkajgiri, and fenced the reclaimed area to prevent further occupation.
The lake, spread over 75 acres in Moula Ali circle of Malkajgiri mandal in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, is known as a mini Tank Bund. While permanent structures have come up on 11 acres, encroachments had begun spreading across another 12 acres within the Full Tank Level (FTL) limits.
The encroachers had erected precast compound walls and fences, effectively carving up portions of the lake bed. Some of the encroached land was being used for pig slaughter, while waste was being dumped into the lake, according to complaints received by HYDRAA.
Following complaints lodged by local residents at Prajavani, HYDRAA officials inspected the site along with the concerned departments and removed the encroachments on Thursday. Precast walls were demolished, and fencing was erected around the reclaimed area. HYDRAA also installed signboards identifying the land as falling within the lake’s FTL limits, a press note informed.
