Nandyal Collector, SP call for drug-free society

District Collector Rajakumari Ganiya and Superintendent of Police Suneel Sheoran have urged every individual to take responsibility in building a drug-free society. They called upon the youth to stay away from narcotic substances and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

As part of ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’, the District Police department organised an awareness programme in the Collectorate on Thursday. The Collector and SP participated in the event and later took part in a marathon to raise public awareness about the eradication of drug abuse.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Rajakumari said the 5K and 10K marathons were organised with the objective of creating awareness especially among the youth about the adverse effects of drugs and encouraging them to abstain from the use of such substances.

The Collector pointed out that the use of cannabis and other narcotics has a negative impact on the lives of young people. Ms. Rajakumari urged them not to fall prey to any addictions which could ruin their future as well as their educational and career opportunities. She noted that substance abuse harms not only individual health but also the family and society as a whole.

The Collector emphasised that the youth must play a pivotal role in curbing drug use and advised them to inform the relevant authorities if they notice any drug consumption or illegal activities in schools, colleges, or their surrounding areas. The Collector urged everyone to work towards building a healthy and happy society.

SP Suneel Sheoran said the police department is taking measures to curb the consumption, supply, and trafficking of narcotics. He urged the public to inform the police immediately on emergency police service number, 112, information about drug consumption or smuggling.

The marathon commenced at the Collectorate, passed through the Nunepalle highway bridge and the Tekke Market Yard, reached Gandhi Chowk, and returned to the Collectorate.
