Umejiaku, Dunstan Fire Flamingos Into U-17 World Cup Quarter-Finals

Oluebube Umejiaku and Mary Dunstan scored as Nigeria’s Flamingos defeated Mexico 2-1 on Thursday evening to book their place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

Umejiaku broke the deadlock in the 39th minute after Mexico had resisted a barrage of Nigerian attacks.

Dunstan doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 70th minute, putting the Flamingos in control of the Round of 16 encounter.

Emily Delgado pulled one back for Mexico in added time, but her goal came too late to inspire a comeback as Nigeria held on to secure their place in the last eight.
