Coastal Andhra Pradesh may receive heavy rain from November 1 as low-pressure area brewing over Bay of Bengal

Formed over Andaman Sea, the low-pressure area may strengthen over the next three days and approach Andhra Pradesh coast, says IMD

Dark clouds gather over the skyline of Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

A day after the very severe cyclonic storm Arnab crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast near Narsapur of West Godavari district, bringing extremely heavy rainfall to coastal districts, the India Meteorlogical Department (IMD) has said that the State is likely to see another spell of heavy rains from November 1.

A low-pressure area, formed over the Andaman Sea, may strengthen over the next three days, it said.

According to IMD, Amaravati, a low-pressure area formed over the south Andaman Sea at 5.30 a.m. on Thursday (October 29, 2026), under the influence of a cyclonic circulation. The weather system is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands around October 31.

Thereafter, it is likely to intensify further and continue to move west-northwestwards towards Andhra Pradesh coast by November 2.

An expert at the Cyclone Warning Centre, Visakhpatnam, said there is a possibility of another cyclone, but clarity is yet to emerge.

The system is likely to bring heavy rainfall to the coastal belt on November 1 and 2. Rayalaseema, which did not get much rain under the influence of Cyclone Arnab , may not see any major rainfall activity this time too.

The rainfall that lasted over two days brought down the rain deficit in North Andhra, while the central parts and Rayalaseema remain deficient. Out of 28 districts, 12 reported normal rainfall while 16 were rain-deficient. The districts that reported normal are Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Parvathipuram-Manyam, Polavaram, Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Krishna, Guntur and Tirupati.

Whereas, the districts of East and West Godavari, NTR, Eluru, Bapatla, Palnadu, Markapuram, SPSR Nellore, and all the districts of Rayalaseema region, except for Tirupati, reported rainfall deficit. Prakasam, with 62.2%, has reported the steepest rainfall gap.

Meanwhile, the remnant of Cyclone Arnab weakened into a depression on Thursday morning, and centred over south Chhattisgarh and south Odisha. The system is likely to continue to move northwards and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining northwest Odisha by Thursday evening.
