This Gravity-Defying "Chomp" Lamp Recalls Nintendo's Old Days
Retro gaming is such a fun subject. It's interesting how loved it is, both by those who experienced it and see it with the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia, and by those who approach it with new eyes.
Aweirdguy has tapped into that love with a project that seems deceptively simple, a floating "Chomp" lamp.
The "Chomp", a cannonball with teeth on the end of a chain, is easily recognizable from the Super Mario games. He jumps up to try and eat you, only to be stopped by the chain, giving you the opportunity to sneak up.
A chomp lamp just wouldn't feel right unless the chain was tight. To achieve this, Aweirdguy used a trick even older than Nintendo; stretch a chain and weld the links to make it strong. This allows the set to be suspended in a seemingly gravity-defying position.
