Seyfried raised eyebrows with her body language at the recent Golden Globes after missing out on winning Best Actress in a Motion Picture.

She was nominated for her efforts on “The Testament of Ann Lee”, but lost the award to Rose Byrne. She looked visibly frustrated as the cameras panned to her face, showing her a series of awkward reactions.

In a viral clip on social media, the “Jennifer’s Body” actress was caught grimacing before forcing a smile and standing to applaud the winner, who took home the award for her acting skills in “If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You.”

While many described Seyfried’s reaction as irritable, body language expert Judi James gave more nuance in a conversation with the Daily Mail.

“Amanda’s facial expression suggests she was joking with a comical grimace,” she said.

Hames added: “Unlike the others on the split screen, she doesn’t prepare a loser’s smiling face, but she looks down before the winner is called, suggesting she didn’t intend to go for the false route of bravado.”

The expert went further to explain that Seyfried’s body language revealed how much this moment meant to her.

“She looks tense here, showing what a big moment this was for her,” James continued. “She appears to be laughing at a joke coming from the stage, leaning to the side, and the only real ‘indication’ of having found losing difficult comes from a hard wink she makes when the winner’s name is called and she starts clapping.”

“The exaggerated grimace does indeed seem like an attempt to be funny and perhaps more honest than the losers yelling and screaming like they won,” James added. “She quickly turns to smiling and talking, which is her version of the ‘good loser’ face.”
