I’m joking, of course. Remaking an entire kitchen just to fit in countertops compatible with MagSafe charging is ridiculous, right?
Wait while I check my savings. No, not enough for a renovation, but if there had been one, I would have toyed with the idea.
FreePower, which showed off some of its awesome new charging devices at KBIS 2026, has developed integrated charging devices for kitchen counters, and which wouldn’t I do you want them?
The company works with retailers nationwide to equip countertops of various materials with devices that create Qi-enabled charging halos right on your kitchen counter. No more searching for chargers, hogging outlets, or navigating tangles of cords to charge a device.
FreePower’s built-in countertop chargers can be purchased through any of the brand’s retail partners.
David Watsky/CNETI got to see them in action, along with FreePower’s new laptop charging device at KBIS in Orlando. The Charging Halo is a glowing ring of light projected through the counter’s stone when a human hand touches it. It is used to illuminate the active charging area, telling users where to place their devices.
I did just that, and within seconds my phone turned on and reported that it was juicing.
Pretty cool.
FreePower has launched a more powerful version and Qi adapters that let you charge laptops and smartwatches, in addition to phones.
David Watsky/CNETBefore 2026, the technology was only capable of charging phones (25 watts), but a more powerful 65-watt version, coupled with a small standalone adapter, can charge laptops. A second adapter allows counters to charge smart watches.
Activating FreePower halos requires only a light touch.
David Watsky/CNETFreePower is built into the countertops during manufacturing, and the process is as simple as “cutting a sink,” according to brand representatives. The exclusive quick-mount system allows for quick and easy installation and removal. FreePower can charge any Qi-enabled device, including those from Apple, Samsung and Google.
Prices vary depending on the construction partner and the type of material chosen.
