Ryan Coogler continues his Hollywood streak, and the Oscar-nominated director is now taking his talents to television thanks to a beloved ’90s sci-fi series.
It has been announced that Coogler’s reboot of “The X-Files” is officially moving forward at Hulu, with the streaming service officially ordering a pilot episode.

As the chances of him winning his first Oscar increase, acclaimed director Ryan Coogler also has some good news to celebrate on the television front.
According to Deadline, Hulu is officially moving forward with Coogler’s reboot of “The X-Files” by ordering a pilot. Oscar nominee Danielle Deadwyler is set to play one of the lead roles, with Jennifer Yale as showrunner.
From Hulu’s Onyx Collective and 20th Century Television, Coogler will write and direct the pilot. According to the outlet, the reboot of the original series is described as “two highly decorated but very different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-closed division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.”

Coogler previously spoke about “The X-Files” reboot last year and expressed excitement about bringing his take on the classic series.
“I’ve been excited about this for a long time and I can’t wait to get back to it,” he said, according to Deadline. “Some of these episodes, if we do our job right, will be really scary. We’re going to try to do something really great and really be something for the real ‘X-Files’ fans, and maybe find some new ones.”

The director made history at this year’s BAFTAs

On Sunday, February 22, Ryan Coogler made history by becoming the first black person to win the BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay for his box office and critically acclaimed film “Sinners.”
While accepting his award at the 79th annual ceremony, Coogler admitted he was shocked to win, while also paying tribute to his fellow nominees.
“I’m nominated with some incredible writers,” he said. “I’m going to share this with all of you… You’ve already won by being here.”
“Sinners” won three awards in total, including best supporting actress for British star Wunmi Mosaku.

‘Sinners’ breaks 10-year Oscar nominations record for upcoming ceremony

According to Deadline, “Sinners” broke the previous record for Oscar nominations last set by the 2016 musical drama “La La Land.”
“Sinners” earned a record 16 nominations in multiple categories at this year’s ceremony, including best actor, best picture and best director. Right behind “Sinners” is Paul Thomas Anderson’s drama “One Battle After Another” with 14 nominations.
With “Sinners” recognition, Michael B. Jordan earned his first Academy Award nomination. Two of his co-stars in the film were also recognized for their work, as Delroy Lindo (Best Supporting Actor) and Wunmi Mosaku (Best Supporting Actress) were also nominated.

In addition to Ryan Coogler in the best director category, “Sinners” is also up for best original screenplay, best music, best song, best cinematography, best production design, best costume design, best sound, best editing, best makeup and hairstyling, best casting and finally best visual effects.
Coogler opened up about his record-breaking Oscar nominations

“I had no expectations regarding the recognition of what they [the team] “I did it,” he said. “For me, people who just come to the cinema and have a good time, that would have been enough. It’s worth all the effort. But these people would consider the craft and the achievements associated with it individually. It’s so rewarding.”
The director, who has worked with Michael B. Jordan several times since their first collaboration on “Fruitvale Station,” also shared his joy over the actor’s nomination.

“Obviously, the three of us have been working with Michael since 2012. So that’s 14 years of relationship. So to see him get this recognition from his peers, it’s just the best feeling ever. We feel really, really, really happy that they said yes to the project, first of all, and happy for them,” Coogler said.

To date, “Sinners” has grossed $400 million worldwide, breaking a series of box office records.
According to Screen Rant, the film became the highest-grossing R-rated film to debut over Easter weekend, earned the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated original horror film since 2021, ranked ninth as the best opening weekend ever for an R-rated horror film, and the best opening weekend for an original film in the 2020s.
