Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (SM: BTS) took a long time to arrive. The final installment of Sony’s Spider-Verse animated film trilogy was originally scheduled for release in March 2024. Long story short: that date proved too ambitious for the cast and crew, and the film is now scheduled to arrive on June 25, 2027.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse release date
As I mentioned above, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will finally come out June 25, 2027.
It was supposed to arrive nine months later Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Versereleased in June 2023. However, the scale of its output, coupled with a disturbing report from Vulture about the grueling working conditions its large team had apparently been subjected to on Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verseled to SM:BTS being continually delayed
Last April, Sony finally confirmed Beyond the Spider-Verse would be released on June 4, 2027. However, five months later, Beyond the Spider-VerseThe launch date of has been pushed back to its current location.
It’s unclear how much work remains on one of next year’s most exciting new films. Lead actors Shameik Moore (per DiscussingFilm) and Hailee Steinfeld (per Variety) were recording lines in late 2025, but there have been no updates on the progress of this project since then. Hopefully it’s still on track to debut in mid-2027.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse trailer: is there one?
No, and there are still 16 months (at the time of publication) until Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is here, we won’t see a trailer for a long time.
My best guess? A teaser will be released during this year’s Brazil Comic-Con, which takes place in December, before the full trailer is revealed during Sony Pictures’ panel at CinemaCon 2027, which is expected to take place in March or April of the same year.
Spider-Man: Beyond Spider-Verse Cast: Confirmed and Rumored

Beyond the Spider-VerseCasting has not yet been confirmed. However, based on how Across the Spider-Verse ends, here’s who I expect to see and hear next:

There will surely be a lot more new and returning characters appearing, as well as more cameos of the crowd-pleasing genre we were treated to in Through the Spider-Verse. Major potential spoilers follow for SM:BTSso skip to the next section if you don’t want to know anything before release.
As old as it may be, a June 2023 report from comicbook.com indicated that we’ll see multiple versions of Spider-Gwen in Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Given the multiversal nature of the Spider-Verse film series, this is a distinct possibility. However, while franchise overlords Phil Lord and Chris Miller have said they planned to include variations of Steinfeld’s deuteragonist, things might have changed since then.
Who is directing Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse?
As I reported in December 2024, Justin K. Thompson and Bob Perischetti will co-lead Beyond the Spider-Verse. Thompson was one of three people who led Through the Spider-Versewhile Perischetti was part of a trio of filmmakers who similarly directed Into the Spider-Verse. The final part of the trilogy is therefore in more than competent hands.
Elsewhere, The Cosmic Circus suggested the Japanese Spider-Man, who was rumored to appear in Through the Spider-Versewill have a role to play. Again, however, its inclusion depends on whether the trio’s story has been changed since this March 2024 article was published.
Finally, regarding the dream cast list, Oscar Isaac told The Hollywood Reporter (THR) that he would like to see Pedro Pascal voice a “grumpy old Spider-Person,” while unreliable scooper MyTimeToShineHello said that Sony wanted Andrew Garfield to voice an animated version of his wallcrawler. If Garfield’s Spidey shows up, will Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland’s web-slingers do the same? We’ll have to wait and see.
Spider-Man: Beyond Spider-Verse History Speculation
Full spoilers follow for Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse.
There is no connection line for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, based on the ending of the previous film, as well as what was announced by the cast and crew, we have an idea of where things could go.
First, you’ll want to remember what happened in the second installment of the film trilogy. Before we move on to more potentially spoilery material, let’s also see what isn’t it true about SM:BTS.
Only three days later Through the Spider-Verse debuted in theaters, The Cosmic Circus suggested its sequel would be even longer than its predecessor’s two-hour, 20-minute runtime. Franchise co-lord Chris Miller immediately refuted this on X/Twitter.
Then, more than a year later, industry expert Jeff Sneider claimed that much Beyond the Spider-VerseThe story had been abandoned. Once again, Miller was quick to throw cold water on this rumor.
As I said in the casting section of this article, things could have changed during the film’s long development cycle. However, since nothing has leaked onto the internet about this as of late, we’ll have to assume that Miller’s comments are still true.
What East It’s clear that everyone wants to not dig into the bag with the end of the trilogy. Speaking to Total Film, composer Daniel Pemberton admitted that the entire cast and crew were “feeling the pressure” and, referring to The godfather the incredibly controversial ending to the trilogy, added “you don’t want Godfather he [the ending]”.
“We put the most pressure on ourselves,” Miller also told io9. “There’s no one who puts more pressure on us than ourselves, wanting to outdo ourselves every time and see things you’ve never seen before and make it feel like it’s something you’ve never experienced before. And so, trying to get something as worthy as the previous two has been the driving force.”
Of the film series’ ending, Miller also said, “I think it’s a very satisfying conclusion” (according to freelance journalist Jonathan Sim), while voice actor Brian Tyree Henry indicated that it would not end with a “happily ever after” moment, saying (per Variety), “There won’t be a dry eye in the house.” I’ll tell you. Good luck. This isn’t going to end in a nice little bow like things tend to.
There is a lot for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse to conclude too.
On the one hand, Miles and company must stop The Spot from destroying the multiverse. Before that happens, Miles must escape Earth-42, aka the dimension he found himself trapped in. Through the Spider-Verse. He will also have to deal with the real-life version of Miles (i.e. Miles G. Morales), who has become The Prowler instead of Spider-Man. That’s because a) the spider that supposedly bit Miles G. ended up biting Miles through some multiversal shenanigans, and b) Miles G.’s father dies, causing Miles G. to turn to a life of crime under the tutelage of his uncle Aaron.
Meanwhile, Gwen has formed her own Spider-Society, intending to save Miles. It’s also likely that Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099’s Spider-Society is still after him, as Miles intends to save his father’s life amid The Spot’s upcoming assault on Mile’s world s.
However, the death of Miles’ father is considered a canonical event in the multiverse, and if these fixed points in time are altered in any way, they will destabilize the multiverse itself. One such incident happened when Miles saved Pavitr’s father in Through the Spider-Verseso we’ve already glimpsed the potential consequences of what could happen if Miles meddles with the multiverse again.
On top of all that, we need a resolution to Miles and Gwen’s “will they, won’t they” dynamic, the conclusion of each Spider-Person’s narrative, and, potentially, a tease or two about other animated films featuring Spider-Person that could follow the Miles-led trilogy. Speaking of which…
Will Sony make more Spider-Verse movies?
There’s nothing official to report, but there appears to be some movement regarding possible spinoff films in development.
Back in August, Deadline reported that a standalone Spider-Punk film was in the works, and rumors swirled. It’s worth noting that a Spider-Gwen offshoot was also discussed internally by Sony executives. Meanwhile, an animated Venom movie has reportedly been greenlit (according to THR) and will be made by Sony Pictures Animation, i.e. the same studio that developed the Spider-Verse trilogy. However, it is unclear if this Venom project is a Spider-Verse spin-off.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse It’s unlikely this will be the last time we see Miles Morales in a big screen production either. Marvel superstar Tom Holland, who has played Peter Parker and his super-powered alter ego in the MCU since 2016, won’t play the character forever. And, with fans calling for Miles to be introduced as part of the MCU’s post-resetSecret Avengers Wars – Holland said he would be “honored” to have his Spidey mentor the MCU’s Miles (per Inverse) – I wouldn’t be surprised if a live-action Miles appears once Marvel’s Phase 6 is complete.
