WARNING: spoilers for Marshals: A Yellowstone Story episode 1 coming soon.
We’re just one episode into Taylor Sheridan’s highly anticipated spin-off. Marshals: A Yellowstone Storyand fans have already loved it like a sack of potatoes.
As Paramount puts it, “Kayce combines his cowboy and Navy SEAL skills to bring justice to Montana. He and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost of serving as the last line of defense in the war against the region’s violence. »
Did Marshals: A Yellowstone Story turn Taylor Sheridan’s intellectual property into a run-of-the-mill cop show on CBS?

Look on it
Let’s take a look at some of my favorite fan reactions to Marshals: A Yellowstone Story episode 1, okay?
One X/Twitter user starts off strong, saying: “Well, that’s the end of my time watching Marshals of Yellowstone! It’s horrible…no wonder it’s not on Paramount! Not even the same writer…I’m about to fall asleep, it’s so boring.”
Factually incorrect, as we know all 13 episodes will air on Paramount+, but scathing nonetheless.
Our second user is more right. “Marshals of Yellowstone spin-off: predictable modern formula cop show – boring like all other modern cop shows! None of this is real, none of this is a real US Marshals procedure. Kayce Instant Deputy Badge: ZERO Academy, ZERO background, ZERO vetting? Total fantasy! Recruit rifle kills on first day? »

CBS has a rich history of crime shows, with CSI, Criminal minds, And NCIS just a few of the titles to his credit. They are joined by more recent series such as Land of Fire, Tracker, and the new Matlock reboot, all of which march to the beat of a similar drum.
In short, CBS knows how it wants to make its crime shows, and they clearly don’t think there’s any point in changing a proven model that gets results. Unfortunately, the side effect of Kayce giving up the cowboy life is that his news feels like something we already know all too well.
“Terrible series, bad acting, bad casting… This is what we can replace Yellow stone? NO THANK YOU!” intervenes a third.
This comment highlights the biggest potential problem. If Marshals is too far from Yellow stone world, will people continue to listen to us?
With episodes airing weekly, only time will tell over the next 12 weeks. For the first time since the show was announced, I’m worried.
