From Boston Blue’s A season 2 renewal has been announced, viewers are wondering which characters from the first installment will return, and Donnie Wahlberg may have just confirmed a major return.
Marisa Ramirez, who plays Maria Baez in the flagship series and its spinoffs, was one of the characters fans really wanted to see return in Boston Blue season 2. She is the love interest of Wahlberg’s character Danny Reagan and has made several appearances in the new series. So, naturally, audiences were curious about her return, especially since the character put her foot down and said she had no plans to move to Massachusetts.
In a clip on InstagramWahlberg congratulates Ramirez for appearing in a Jordan Knight music video. At the end of his speech, he revealed that the actress would indeed be part of Boston Blue season 2. However, he did not reveal whether she would continue to be a guest star or be part of the permanent cast.
Shortly after the images were released, TV Insider request Boston Blue creators Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis to confirm whether Baez would return. The duo were cryptic in their responses, but it was heavily implied that Wahlberg’s comment wasn’t just a joke.
Sonnier teased: “It’s a distinct possibility, yesHe went further and coyly said there was a chance that Baez, who was so reluctant to move in Boston Blue season 1may be living with Danny in Massachusetts. Margolis intervened and said: “Crazier things have happened“.
Comments from the creators clearly indicate that Ramirez’s role in Boston Blue season 2 could be significantly longer than that of the first chapter. Baez leaving New York after adamantly expressing that she had no interest in moving would be a huge character break for her, and it wouldn’t make much sense. However, with Sonnier, Margolis and Wahlberg all keeping things relatively vague, the big change could come closer to the end of the season.
Boston Blue The season 1 finale will premiere on March 13, 2026 at 10:00 p.m. ET and 7:00 p.m. PT on CBS.
