‘Stranger Things: Tales of 1985,’ ‘Running Point,’ ‘Beef’ and More Are New on Netflix in April

Unreleased: Chess Mates (Netflix original documentary)

Untold is Netflix’s great sports documentary series that highlights some of the craziest and most infamous sports stories of all time. A new series of four feature-length documentaries is rolling out, starting with Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, which exposes the private struggles of one of the NBA’s most famous stars. This one premiered on March 31, and three more will arrive in April, including Untold: Chess Mates (April 7), about the controversial and controversial matches between chess greats Magnus Carlsen and Hans Niemann, Untold: Jail Blazers (April 14), which takes a look at the scandal-plagued Portland Trail Blazers of the early 2000s, and Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill (April 21) about of a former Olympic rider accused of trying to kill one of his riding students in 2019.

Thrash (Netflix original film)

Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor stars in the new disaster movie Thrash, which arrives on Netflix on April 10. The film, which tells the story of a coastal community decimated by a massive storm, is actually a disaster movie that is also a monster movie. Now that the town in question has been flooded with water, they also have to fight off the sharks. The film’s cast also includes Djimon Hounsou and Whitney Peak.

Noah Kahan: Out of Body (Netflix Original Documentary)

Singer-songwriter (and famous New Englander) Noah Kahan is featured in this candid new documentary that highlights his rise to fame and showcases his life at home in Vermont with his family. Noah Kahan: Out of Body arrives on Netflix on April 13.

Roommates (Netflix original film)

Roommates is a new comedy produced by Adam Sandler that stars his daughter, Sadie Sandler, and Chloe East as college roommates whose friendship deteriorates the longer they live together. The cast is a who’s who of comedic performers like SNL star Sarah Sherman, Natasha Lyonne, Nick Kroll, Janeane Garofalo, Carol Kane and more.

Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool (Netflix Original Documentary)

The new feature-length documentary Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool is a profile of country star Wilson. Directed by Amy Scott, who also directed another great documentary, Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately? on HBO Max, the film looks at Wilson’s personal journey in the music business.

Apex (Netflix original film)

Charlize Theron just can’t catch a break in the new survival thriller Apex. Theron plays a grieving woman who sets out on a journey through the Australian wilderness to help move on with her life, only to find herself relentlessly pursued by a brutal serial killer. Taron Egerton and Eric Bana co-star in the film which arrives on Netflix April 24.

XO, Kitty, Season 3

Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) begins her senior year of high school at her South Korean high school, KISS, and although she has her future mapped out and has a blossoming relationship with her former enemy-turned-crush, Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee), nothing seems to go as planned. Season 3 of XO, Kitty consists of eight new episodes, all of which will arrive on April 2.

Beef, Season 2 (Netflix original series)

After the first season of Beef won the Emmys, it was announced that the series would become an anthology with an all-new cast for season two. In the new season, which premieres April 16, Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan play a married couple, Josh and Lindsay, who fight in the presence of another couple they work with, Ashley and Austin, played by Cailee Spaeny and Charles Melton. The situation deteriorates, especially when their billionaire boss gets involved.

Running Point, season 2 (Netflix original series)

Kate Hudson stars in the Netflix original series Running Point as Isla Gordon, the unlikely heiress to a Los Angeles basketball dynasty who must keep the franchise afloat. This season, Isla’s brother Cam (Justin Theroux) is intent on taking the job away from her, and she must survive her power play to maintain everything she built when she took over. The second season of the series will begin on April 23.

Stranger Things: Tales from 1985 (Netflix original series)

Set between the events of the second and third seasons of Stranger Things, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is a new animated series from the Duffer Brothers that features all your favorite kids from Hawkins, Indiana, facing new threats from monsters lurking in their town. The series, released on April 23, also introduces a few new characters joining Will, Eleven, Mike and the rest of their friends.

Tyson Fury vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov (Netflix live event)

Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury returns to boxing for an In-Ring showdown with Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11. Conor “The Destroyer” Benn and Regis “Rougarou” Prograis co-headline the event, which is broadcast live from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in north London at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT. The rest of the fight card includes Jeamie Tshikeva vs. Richards Riakporhe and Frazer Clarke vs. Justis Huni.
